I finally pulled the trigger on the Hustler prior to one of our first club tournaments of the year, in which a crankbait usually plays a big roll. Let me tell you, this rod is so perfectly balanced it almost feels like you are fishing with nothing. I tied on a Spro RK Crawler and easily doubled the length of any cast I had made with the crankbait using my older rods. This thing is the real deal. I could grind that RK Crawler in about 12' of water all day with no wear & tear on my arm. I ended up hooking a 6lb channel catfish first cast and had more than enough backbone to handle the fish with ease yet the rod is still parabolic with a soft tip. I will definitely be adding 2 more hustlers to my boat deck here in the near future.
I own several ALX rods, this is my first glass rod. Picked it up at The Classic last week. I also picked up another glass rod from a different manufacturer in the same pricepoint...I like comparing brands to know where my money is best invested. I've only used them in a couple of outings so far but, as a crankbait enthusiast, the Hustler is gonna become one of my most used rods and the other brand will likely be put up for sale, to buy a second Hustler. It's lighter, casts better and puts less stress on my hands and wrists. The lack of stress stood out to me with other ALX rods I've used. You don't feel extra pressure in the joints and it doesn't get heavy in the loadup. Almost like throwing air. The whole motion is extremely smooth and effortless and the hookup is sweet! Makes long days on the water possible again. I'm glad there are many brands for us consumers to choose from but, as far as I'm concerned, ALX is the one who should claim to be "the best rods on earth"...cause the other one fell way short of their claim.
I never realized how important a glass rod is when fishing crank baits. I’m normally one who sets the hooks hard. I’ve fished this rod solid for 2 weeks daily. I’m very impressed with the bend in the rod at hook set. I own several ALX rods (all different models) my next purchase will be another Hustler so I can have setups for different depths.
I have had this rod for about 90 days. I fish 5-6 times monthly from a kayak. My equipment takes a beating. This rod is phenomenal! Plain and simple my favorite rod. I throw all manner of baits on this rod. It handles everything. To date I have caught four bass over 5lbs on the Hustler. Two of those fish were landed in swift river current. The Hustler has the perfect combo of tip and backbone to keep those bigs pinned and withstand that surge right at the boat without a break-off. I have met Alex personally at Southern Moon Outfitters in Augusta, GA. He is an intelligent, gracious, and personable fella who just wants people to enjoy fishing with his company's outstanding equipment. I also have personal experience with the customer service of ALX Rods and it is top-notch! I will become a repeat customer. My next ALX purchase will be a heavy swimbait rod. Buy ALX Rods with confidence and start putting more fish in your kayak, boat, or on the bank! I
