Had a chance to throw a frog on the toadface the other night. Rod is a medium heavy when walking a frog and instantly turns into a heavy once the hook is set. Rod man handles fish and is light and well built,I’ve also thrown 1/4 oz shaky heads on this rod which is under the suggested weight rating and you can count rocks with it. I can see why people buy more then one of these rods because they are just so versatile. Great job ALX on designing such a unique and awesome rod.
Spent a week fishing this rod and I have to say, it has quickly become the rod I reach for! Oddly enough, I never threw a frog with it! Mostly, I threw a 3/8 vibrating jig with it all week but it was a pleasure to fish several other lures with. It is light and sensitive and has plenty of backbone. This is my fifth ALX rod and they have all been fantastic. Caught both bass and pike on this rod and it handled them all beautifully.
I took my time to get to know this rod before sharing my review and what I know now is this rod is far more versatile then I imagined. It is a replacement rod to some of my current rods. ALX hit a home run with this rod. Thank you to all at ALX. Great Job!
I saw a lot of comments and posts on social media, all singing the praises of the Toadface. Frankly, I blew it off as prostaffers just doin their job. When I came across some ZOLO rods at a ridiculous price, the toadface was one of two I bought to try out. I was so dang wrong when I blew off the previous posts! I now have several ALX rods and if I could only keep one rod (of any brand or type) it would be the Toadface, without hesitation. Ironically, a frog bite is about the only thing I haven't tried with this rod. All that backbone but I can still throw a light shakey head. Wasn't expecting much for sensitivity from a frog rod but, again, I was wrong. I can throw a heavy spinnerbait all day and no longer have the hand and wrist-joint pains like I did with my old rod. Also caught my first swimjig bass on the TF. Really can't say enough good things about the ZOLO Toadface. So if you're like me and wonder if all the talk about the Toadface is just fluff, or prostaffers fulfilling their obligations...it's not. It's the real deal. If you're wanting to upgrade your rods past the typical $100-150 range, THIS is the one to start with! Feel the difference in sensitivity, the light weight, all-day comfort in your hand and the added backbone even if ya botch the hookset. It'll make it easy to justify future upgrades for other applications. I'll be thrilled to add more of em to the arsenal.
Got to try out my Zolo Toadface this weekend great rod. Alex did not steer me wrong caught a limit on the Ohio River first time using it. Great action light and felt ever bite . Think I will try a couple more.
