ZOLO Trickster Spinning Rod

I ordered a custom casting Trickster at the start of the year for my Metanium Shallow spool. I had never ordered a custom rod before so I had many questions. The person I spoke with through emails was great and answered all of my questions. For the blank part of the review I would say it matches the description perfectly. Light tip with plenty of backbone. My original plan was to use light T-rigs and swimbaits but the rod has quickly become my favorite light wire hook drop shot rod. On the custom side, I ordered carbon grips and I really enjoy the feel. Now I'll have order my next rods with carbon grips.

You can do a lot with this rod. This week I used it to throw a Zman SMH neko rigged and it performed flawlessly. Other times it works great to throw ballhead jig/swimbait combo, shakey head. Very versatile... I need to get another. Just waiting for one to pop up in the trick shop. I like buying the custom models that come out from time to time if you keep your eyes peeled.

Another great rod from ALX! Just the right amount of finesse and backbone. High quality all around. There is a reason I am switching all of my rods over to ALX!

Is the trickster great for drop shot? Yes. Ned rig? Yup. Shakey head? Check. But it's also an amazing jerkbait rod (if you like spinning rods for them, like me)! Paired with a quality size 2500 reel, it can cast a 110 half a mile. I've caught many big smallmouth on it (over 5 lbs.) and even a few good sized northern pike (up to 12 lbs or so) with no problem at all from the rod. Keeps the fish pinned, I've had virtually no lost fish. Take my advise and give it a try. Also recommend the Maestro for dropshot, neds, blades, etc. I have about a dozen ALX Zolos, they are all amazing.

Guys, purchased 3 ALX Zolo Trickster rods -these are the real deal-from ned rigs, senkos ,dropshot even flukes -this rod excels at any of these techniques - I was a long time Dobyns guy and swapped the champion extreme spinning rods out for these Tricksters and couldn’t be any happier. The build quality is incredible and the feel in your hand feels like you are holding a much more expensive rod. Sensitivity is awesome -don’t listen to anyone say ALX rods are not sensitive -they are very sensitive. Alex the owner is a great resource of info as I spoke to him on any questions I had. Several of my buddies have become interested in the Zolos and a friend of mine Kevin just ordered a Trickster or two as well. For the money ALX rods are the best bang for your buck :)
